What's driving better food outcomes in York and North Yorkshire?

What Works Now Inquiry report visit

A second citizen-led report setting out how to create a fairer food system has been published.

The latest What Works Here Inquiry features learnings from visits to food projects in York and North Yorkshire.

Members of the Food Strategy Citizen Advisory Council (CAC) met local leaders, including Mayor David Skaith, to hear about what's working well in the region when it comes to food and what is blocking progress.

Their findings offer insights into what national government can learn from Yorkshire's farmers and food producers – as well as academia and civil society organisations who are helping join the dots to get good local food to more people.

The recommendations will feed into the development of Defra’s new Food Strategy, offering new insights into how national government can help regional food systems thrive – and what they can learn from work already happening to transform food.
