Food Businesses
We are independent of industry and do not take any funding from food businesses, which allows us to maintain our independence.
Instead, we act as critical friends to the UK’s food sector, holding large food businesses to account on the transparency and ambition of their health and sustainability commitments through our annual Plating Up Progress benchmark as well as working with businesses to support them in the transition to more healthy and sustainable diets.
Food businesses are the funnel for all the food we buy and eat in the UK, and play a critical role in shaping the food environments that influence what is made available, affordable and appealing to us.
Rewriting the recipe: Investing in a healthier, sustainable food future
We build communities of best practice around those foods that ought to be the cornerstone of healthy and sustainable diets, working to boost sales and servings of vegetables (through our former Peas Please project) and beans in particular.
We also aim to highlight and platform progressive voices within the food industry who we've identified as being leaders on specific areas within health and sustainability and who want Government to take a more proactive role in helping them deliver on their health and sustainability strategies.
