Farming For 5-A-Day: how resilient is the UK’s supply of fruit, veg and beans in a changing climate?

Whilst the UK is experiencing wildfires and drought over the summer, it is still less vulnerable to climate change than many of its global suppliers of healthy staple foods like fruit, veg and beans.

We currently import 80% of our fruit and 47% of our veg and the worsening climate and nature crisis globally means this reliance on imports poses a growing threat to our food and nutrition security.

The government’s forthcoming Horticulture Sector Growth Plan is an important opportunity to help build a food system that’s fit for the future. This report lays out what should be included.
