Celebrating International Women's Day
As organisations around the world mark 2024 International Women's Day today, we'd like to thank all of our women Food Ambassadors for helping us to drive change in the food system and bringing to life their lived experiences of food insecurity and food poverty.
We work with citizens from across the UK ranging from teenagers through to adults and our impact would be lessened without their contribution.
Their tireless campaigning on issues such as calling for the extension of Free School Meals has led to tangible success, notably in London and led to several awards.
In the spirit of gender equality, we'd also like to take the opportunity to share five key policy areas we'd like to see change - given they can disproportionately affect women and girls.
Action in these areas would show policymakers are committed to investing in women and accelerating progress, which is particularly relevant with a General Election due this year.
- Breaking down the Barriers to Breastfeeding
- Action to tackle rising infant formula prices
- Expanding Free School Meals to all families on Universal Credit
- Increasing the value and reach of Healthy Start vouchers
- Additional support for single parent families suffering food insecurity
