Template Pledge for Retailers

Peas Please

The pledges below cover commitments 2, 3 and 6 from the Peas Please Commitments Framework.

We advise our pledgers to commit to at least one pledge per pillar for a more rounded approach to evidencing progress.

Pillar one – Portions and transparent reporting

  1. A veg portion pledge:
    • Committing to a % increase in veg portions sold across own-brand products (or product lines) and reporting back to us on the volume sold (in grams), while maintaining existing commitments to reduce waste.
    • Committing to a % increase in the volume of veg sold in ready meals and meal ingredients/composite dishes and reporting back to us on the volume sold (in grams), while maintaining existing commitments to reduce waste.
    • Committing to increasing sales of vegetables as a % of total sales and reporting back to us on the volume sold (in grams), while maintaining existing commitments to reduce waste.

Please note that any sales figures provided to us as part of Peas Please reporting commitments will be kept confidential, and not reported publicly. We use your reporting internally as part of assessing pledger progress. Any additional portions of vegetables sold are anonymously included as part of our cumulative veg portion total in the Peas Please progress report.

Pillar two – Promoting veg; policy and marketing

  1. Healthy Start and Best Start: Commit to explore and support new ways for securing access to vegetables for young families on low incomes in line with the Government’s two UK schemes, including supporting the digitisation of HS in England and Wales and increasing uptake of Healthy Start vouchers and Best Start Foods.
  2. Veg Power: Commit to helping transform the image of veg through financial and probono support for Veg Power activities and campaigns.
  3. New Product Development: Commit to increasing the amount of veg in new and/or reformulated products. A focus on products targeted at children or infants is particularly welcomed.
  4. Veg promotions: A SMART* commitment to run regular (ideally weekly or monthly) vegetable campaigns in stores, on social media, or on websites and other communication channels. These should aim to make vegetables more appealing, available and affordable.
  5. Recipes: Commit to including a minimum of two portions of veg in all main meal recipes.

*SMART: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time bound.
