Four policy proposals for the 2024 spring Budget
Food prices have increased drastically in the cost of living crisis and wages and benefits have not kept up.
As a result, levels of food insecurity doubled over the course of 2022 and remained high last year. Our latest survey found 15% of UK households were living in food insecurity - the equivalent of around eight million adults and three million children.
These children have struggled for long enough, first through the Covid-19 crisis and now through the cost of living crisis. The Government must ensure all children are able to access a nutritious diet to protect their physical and mental health, and help them reach their full potential.
So ahead of the Spring Budget we've published commitments for consideration in four four areas involving Healthy Start, Free School Meals, benefit and wage levels and the food industry levy.
