Investigating global Nutrition Profiling Models
The triple burden of malnutrition places a serious strain on our society and economy. Poor diets drive one in five deaths globally; reduce productivity; and increase health expenditure dragging down GDP between to 3-11% in several countries.
The Food Foundation recognises that the global food and beverage sector has a crucial role to play in shaping healthy diets and is committed to driving the food industry to produce and provide healthier products to consumers.
So that we can better gauge and compare the healthiness of companies’ products and sales, following the results of an Access to Nutrition Initiative-led multi-stakeholder alignment initiative in 2024, we ask companies to use the HSR, Nutri-Score, and/or the UK NPM to:
- Articulate a definition of ‘healthy’ and publicly disclose sales from healthy products;
- Benchmark the healthiness of their portfolio globally and/or in specific markets;
- Report annually on sales weighted results for their entire portfolio and the percentage of sales from 'healthier' products.
To find out what UK companies are currently disclosing healthy sales information take a look at our Plating Up Progress dashboard.
