Committing to a veg pledge: a multi-stakeholder initiative to increase vegetable consumption for health and the environment

Nutrition For Growth event

Diets low in fruits and vegetables are responsible for over 1.5 million deaths every year, with a shift towards more plant-focussed diets offering a number of cross-cutting health and sustainability benefits that would contribute towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

An established national programme in the United Kingdom - Peas Please - has demonstrated the success that can be achieved when different food system actors collaborate and commit to making vegetables more available, affordable, and appealing.

The event will hear from a variety of stakeholders who have been involved in this nutrition initiative, sharing lessons learnt and practical insights with others who are interested in implementing something similar.
