The Food Foundation's third webinar on Food Justice in partnership with Milan Urban Food Policy Pact (MUFPP) and Birmingham City Council focused on perspectives from Asia and the Pacific.

It was the final in the series of webinars exploring the principles of food justice across four regional contexts.

The MUFPP Fellowship Programme aims to enable Milan Pact Award-winning cities to promote its innovations, knowledge and experience – as well as offering the opportunity to learn from other successful experiences.

The aim is to accelerate the global movement to ensure all people have access to healthy, nutritious, and culturally appropriate food, regardless of their race, income or geographic location.

In the first webinar we explored food justice from African regional context. Our second event centred around the topic from the perspective from north and south America.

Speakers for the latest event included:

  • Dr Shweta Khandelwal, Senior Advisor Nutrition, Jhpiego
  • Dr Nick Rose, Senior Lecturer, Bachelor of Food Studies, William Angliss Institute; Co-founder and Executive Director, Sustain: the Australian Food Network
  • Pak Tendi, MUFPP City representative from Sukamubi, Indonesia; speaking on One Region One Offtaker initiative.
  • Filippo Gavazzeni, Head of the MUFPP Secretariat
  • The webinar will be facilitated by Stuart Gillespie, Non-Resident Senior Fellow at International Food Policy Research Institute and Leticija Petrovic, Local Food Policy Lead at the Food Foundation.

This exciting learning opportunity builds on the Global Food Justice Pledge, launched at the 2021 MUFPP Global Forum in Barcelona.

In October 2023, Birmingham City Council launched the Food Justice Toolkit, suite of resources comprising examples of strategies, policies and interventions that have been implemented worldwide to tackle issues of food injustice and further embed the principles of food justice in their plans for urban food system transformation.
