Market Solutions to Childhood Obesity
Guys and St Thomas’ Charity and Big Society Capital are funding us to research opportunities and barriers for business models that:
- Provide products or services that improve access and engagement with nutritious diets;
- Effectively reach a low-income urban family household consumer base; and
- Have sustainable & scalable business models;
We are doing this project in partnership with independent consultant Joseph Gridley and Dr Laura Cornelsen and Professor Steve Cummins at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. The research includes analysis of national datasets to describe the diet situation for low income households and catalogues successful business models around the world which offer nutritious foods to those on a low income. The finished report, Healthy Returns: Opportunities for market-based solutions to childhood obesity, is now available in full, as are the slides from the roundtable launch event.
