UK economy continues recovery in July

The UK economy grew by 6.6% in July, according to the Office for National Statistics, but remains well below pre-pandemic levels. This is the third month in a row where the UK economy has grown – no great surprise following the easing of lockdown measures in May – but was still 11.7% smaller than it was in February before the pandemic started to bite. The reopening of the hospitality industry led to growth of   140.8% for the accommodation and food services sector, with the alcohol industry growing by 32.7. However, this was still 60.1% below pre-pandemic levels for the food services and accommodation sector overall.
